Truth Experience-Reflect-Demand •Is an example of a Pragmatist Movement •This movement can be seen through the Pragmatist Lens •Students have become fed up with their student experience at the University •They can no longer remain silent and started a movement via social media. •Students gather facts, developed a rationale for the movement and actions are intelligently generated •On Jan. 21st Activist stood on the steps of Hill Auditorium placing seven demands to the University Administration.
Through the lens of this type of philosophy we see:
- The end cannot be separated from the means
- Reality is constantly changing and that we learn best through applying our experiences and thoughts to problems, as they arise
- Truth is what works
- John Dewey applied pragmatist philosophy in his progressive approaches.
- Schools should emphasize the subject matter of social experience
- Different cultural and ethnic groups learn to work cooperatively and contribute to a democratic society
- Ultimate purpose is the creation of a new social order
- Teaching methods focus on hands-on problem-solving, experimenting, and projects.
