Higher Education Ethics
- Higher education is one of the few professional entities that are thought to have an “unquestionable moral compass” (Wilcox & Ebbs,1992, p. xvii).
- University of Michigan leadership will have to consider the ethical opinions and attitudes of all of their constituencies: students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members. They must also individually address their ethical viewpoint on the issue.
- Bruss and Kopala (1993) said professional ethicality is neither accidental nor capricious. To be most effective, reasoning requires the knowledge and cognitive skills necessary for complex thinking and ill-structured problem solving.
- If changes aren’t made, many minority students may feel the necessity to leave the campus
- Recruitment and retention of minority students may be severely prohibited
- Reputation of the school may be negatively influenced
- With more resources and support, students tend to become stronger learners
- Research also shows that schools that have instituted cultural immersion programs and stronger diversity programming have witnessed great successes,
- The university’s mission is serve the people of Michigan and the world by developing leaders. The world is a diverse place, so the university much support and promote that diversity
